The push for gambling in Colorado has been gaining steam for a long time, and it’s not over yet. Let’s take a look at how Colorado got where it’s at today and what the future may hold for legal gambling in the state:

1991: Casino gambling is legalized in Colorado. The state legalized casino gambling in just 3 towns: Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek. These remain the only towns in Colorado where you can play casino games or poker in person, outside of 2 tribal casinos in southwest Colorado.

2008: Voters in Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek voted to increase the maximum bet from $5 to $100 and to allow 24/7 casino operations.
