Best Politics Betting Sites in Australia Reviewed

You’ve already seen our 10 top politics betting sites. Now, it’s time to learn what makes them stand out.

1. Mega Dice – The #1 Politics Betting Site in Australia

As noted, plenty of Aussie-friendly sportsbooks carry sports betting. It shows just how highly we think of Mega Dice, therefore, that it topped this crowded field.

Mega Dice outright politics markets

Mega Dice hasn’t been around long at all, only launching in 2023. It has already established itself as a serious, safe, and professional sportsbook, however, with a wide range of betting options. Naturally, these include politics betting markets, with a particular focus on the UK and US political scenes. There’s a pleasing variety in the wagers you can place too, including Next Party Leader and Party With Most Seats. The odds for these are also solid, and further value is delivered via a big-time repeatable reload bonus.

What we like:

  • Excellent variety of politics markets
  • Exciting, up and coming brand
  • Valuable reload bonus
  • Slick and modern interface

What we don’t:

  • Short track record

2. Lucky Block – Leading Cryptocurrency Politics Betting Website

Lucky Block is a similarly new name on the scene, launching only a year before Mega Dice in 2022. It is also a similarly accomplished brand, however, despite its age, and absolutely belongs high up in this list.

Lucky Block politics betting markets

Lucky Block has a pleasingly wide variety of outright politics wagers available. These were concentrated on the UK and US at the time of writing, but we’re confident that betting on Australian politics will be available when the next election rolls around. While there are no spread bets, you can still pick the individual and party winners of upcoming elections. The odds in both cases are fair, and you can use a dozen different cryptos to bet on them. Also worth noting here is Lucky Block’s enormous welcome offer, which can set you up for betting success.

What we like:

  • Massive welcome offer
  • Good political betting odds
  • Nice variety of props
  • Use 12 different cryptocurrencies

What we don’t:

  • Lack of fiat currency betting options

3. Rabona – Excellent All Round Politics Betting Site

Rabona got a head start on our previous two brands, launching back in 2019. While we wouldn’t call it as exciting or innovative, this has arguably resulted in more of a well-rounded betting site.

Election betting on Rabona

Most importantly, Rabona appears to have a politics betting section in place. This had a nice range of US and UK markets, at the time of writing, revolving around the upcoming elections. Rabona provides plenty of further value to its politics bettors thanks to its ongoing promotions. These include cashback and reload bonuses, winnings boosts, and more. Rabona also lets you bet in both fiat and cryptocurrencies, and the customer support is excellent.

What we like:

  • Nice range of UK and US politics markets
  • Very good ongoing promotions
  • Cryptos and fiats supported
  • Excellent customer service

What we don’t:

  • User interface could be streamlined

4. Sportaza – Bet On Politics Using Fiats or Cryptos

Sportaza was launched in 2021, so it’s been around just long enough to iron out any early teething problems but is still eager to attract new customers.

Sportaza politics betting home page

Sportaza doesn’t welcome politics bettors with the smoothest user interface. Look past this though, and you’ll find a professional and solid site in place. Your politics sportsbet options are housed within the Specials section here, and include all the usual UK and US options. You can bet on them using traditional and crypto payment methods, live chat support is always on hand, and there are several excellent ongoing promotions.

What we like:

  • Nice mixture of payment methods
  • Customer support is easy to access
  • Solid politics betting odds
  • Very good promos

What we don’t:

  • Busy and unattractive interface

5. Wazamba – Fun and Innovative Political Betting Site

In the super-serious world of modern Australian sportsbooks, Wazamba stands out. Between its bright and colourful interface, and its innovative, mask-based VIP programme, simple fun is the clear priority here.

Wazamba politics odds

That’s not to say, however, that Wazamba isn’t serious about its Australian politics betting. Politics gets its own sub-section here, with the most important impending elections available to gamble on. The odds for these markets are highly competitive, and both national and mayoral elections are covered. Add in a nice range of payment methods, useful special offers, and personable and responsive customer service, and there’s plenty to like here.

What we like:

  • Clear emphasis on fun in your politics betting
  • Highly competitive odds
  • Unusual but rewarding VIP programme
  • Good blend of traditional and newer payment options

What we don’t:

  • Bigger welcome offers available elsewhere

Australian Political Betting Websites Compared

Whichever of our recommended brands you go with, you’ll be able to bet on politics in a safe and modern online environment. That said, there are naturally still differences between the platforms, as you can see below.

(Note that there are no Australian politics betting odds available at the time of writing, nor those for the EU. We’d definitely expect this to change ahead of a major election, however, on all 10 platforms).

How We Rank Politics Betting Sites

Our rankings of the top 10 places to stick down a political bet weren’t thrown together at random. Rather they were the result of plenty of research, testing, and analysis, with these being some of the most important criteria we used.

  • Political Betting Markets – Naturally, this is the first thing we check, with any sportsbook we assess. After confirming politics betting markets are in place, we then judge the variety of those markets. That applies not just to the elections that are covered, but the bet types that are available too.
  • Betting Odds – With inferior betting odds, there will always be a cap on your winnings in Australian politics betting. We’ve ensured this is not the case, on all the sites we’ve recommended here, comparing the politics odds for each brand with those being offered by the competition.
  • Special Offers – Promos aren’t the be-all, end-all, but they can make a big difference over the long haul. A good sign up bonus can give your politics betting a real kick-start, while high quality ongoing promos will continually reward your loyalty. In both cases, we’ve looked at both the surface bonus amount and the underlying T&Cs.
  • Peace of Mind – It’s only natural to crave peace of mind, as you continue your politics betting. We assess various factors that help to create this, from a brand’s licensing to its track record, to its security features. We also check that you can get help quickly and effectively, if and when you need it.

Popular Politics Betting Markets

Your options for Australian politics betting aren’t as varied as for sports like soccer or footie, for example. That said, you still have a few good options here, as you can see below.

Election Winner

This is the most straightforward political betting market of all. It will generally apply to elections for an individual (such as mayoral or presidential elections), and you simply need to pick the person who’s going to win.

In Australia, arguably the safest bet around in this category is Clover Moore to be re-elected as the mayor of Sydney. She’s the longest-serving mayor of Sydney since it officially became a city, and dominated the most recent 2021 Sydney Local Elections.

Winning Party

This is basically the same as Election Winner. The only difference is that it applies to party-based contests, such as parliamentary elections, or who’ll control the House in US elections. If you’d bet on the Republicans to control the House after the 2022 Midterms, for example, you’d have been proved correct.

Margin of Victory

Some sites will let you not only bet on the winner of an election but also the actual winning margin. This will most likely apply to party-based elections since you can predict how many seats the victorious party will win. In the last Australian Federal Election, for example, Labor won by a 19-seat margin. If the over/under had been set at 18.5, an over bet would’ve won and an under wager would have lost.

Next PM/President

These are longer-term markets. Rather than being linked to a specific election, they basically stay open indefinitely. You’re betting on who will be the country’s next leader eventually, whether that comes through a national election, intra-party election, resignation, or any other method.

Political Betting Markets for Australian Punters

As with actual bet types, there’s not a huge amount of variety in the forms of markets you’ll find in Australian politics betting. These are your four main fields.

Money Line

This is the most common and basic type. You simply bet on the actual outcome and are given fixed odds for doing so. If you see Next PM odds on Politician X at 5.0, for example, that’s a money line bet.

Spread Betting

Spread betting involves wagering on a range of outcomes, rather than a specific one. The classic example for election odds would be predicting a winning margin. It would be nigh-impossible to correctly guess the literal winning margin, but bookies might let you take a spread instead (e.g. Republicans to Win by 20-30 Seats in the US House of Representatives).

Over/Under

These are far more popular in sports betting, but you may find them for politics too. Again, they’re most likely to apply to markets with a wide spread of potential results, like Australian federal politics betting.

Specials

You’ll find special bets popping up in the political betting sections of sportsbooks every now and again. There can be plenty of variety in what you’ll find here. At the more serious end, you could wager on what year the next election will take place, in countries where there isn’t a fixed date. Elsewhere, you might bet on the length of someone’s speech at their party conference, for example.

Political Betting Odds Explained

This market certainly varies from others in lots of ways. When it comes to the actual format of election betting odds, however, it’s business as usual.

You’ll usually be given a few different odds formats to choose from, including decimal odds, the preferred type for most Aussie punters. These odds indicate how much you’ll get back based on your stake. Decimal odds, for example, start at 2.0 for even odds. Stick $100 on someone to win an election, for example, and you’ll get $200 back ($100 profit + $100 stake). Lower and higher numbers mean lesser and greater returns respectively.

Can Australians Bet on International Politics?

We might have focused on Australian politics betting in this article. The reality is, however, that while using an Aussie-focused sportsbook you can actually wager on elections all around the world. US political betting is fair game, as are the parliamentary and even mayoral elections in UK politics betting. In fact, since we’re talking about international betting sites here – rather than domestic Aussie brands – you’ll often find more options for these other major countries than for Australian politics.

Top Political Betting Tips

As in all forms of gambling, there’s no guarantee of success when betting on politics. There are steps you can take to improve your chances though, with these being four examples.

  • Read the News – Sure, it’s obvious, but it still shouldn’t be overlooked. If you’re serious about political betting, you should always stay on top of the news, even when there’s not an election just around the corner. The more informed you are in general, the better your picks will be.
  • Do Your Research – When an election is imminent, you should get your hands on as much information as you possibly can. This means not reading news and analysis, checking the latest polls, watching debates, and basically anything else you can think of.
  • Monitor the Odds – Remember that odds are not set in stone, and will almost certainly change over time. If you like a candidate or party to win but don’t currently think they’re valued correctly, then stay patient – their prices may well get more attractive in time.  Elsewhere, you may be able to take advantage of a short term rise in odds after certain negative news items, which often won’t have any actual impact on the election result.
  • Follow the Experts – Even if you do make an effort to stay informed, you should still take the opinions of expert analysts into account. While most of these will be concentrating on the actual, real-world election results, many will at least reference, if not outright focus on the interrelated betting.

Mobile Politics Betting in Australia

mobile betting on politics

The days of being limited to using your computer for betting are long gone. Now, you can place political wagers wherever and whenever you please, thanks to the rise of mobile technology. Whether using an actual app, or simply the responsive version of the main site, you’ll be able to wager on exactly the same markets here while enjoying the convenience of using a mobile device.

‘High Stakes’ Betting

Australian politics betting might not be as popular as sports-based gambling, for example. That said, the events in question are indisputably more ‘important’, and this high stakes nature really can make politics betting a thrilling experience.

After reading this article, you have all the information you need to get started. Now you just need to pick one of our recommended bookies, sign up, and start betting.
